This was one of the first kids tv holiday tv specials to feature a popular character from a children's series. Performed live from NBC TV's Century Theater in NYC, "Big Todd" Russell and "Mr. Deetle Dootle" (John Schoepperle)and "Rootie Tootie", "Little Nipper" and "Poka Dottie" would perform songs and comedy skits and engage their viewers and studio audience in "The Little Nipper Quiz" while introducing performances from many well known performers.

This show also featured rare appearances from songwriter Irving Caesar (who did a song about trusting the police on the show), Jon Gnagy and Tex Antoine and a filmed message from former first lady Mrs. Elenore Roosevelt.
