The Tarzan/Lone Ranger/Zorro Adventure Hour was the last cartoon series to star the loinclothed Edgar Rice Burroughs ape-man character. After swinging solo in 1976, becoming part of a dynamic pairing with Batman in 1977, then leading the Super 7 in 1978, Tarzan found a new pal in 1980 in the form of the Lone Ranger.

A year later, the two joined forces with the swashbuckling hero Zorro, thus giving birth to quite possibly the least graceful cartoon title ever, although The Pac-Man/Little Rascals/Richie Rich Show could probably give it a run for its money.

The Tarzan and Lone Ranger segments remained virtually unchanged, but Zorro was given a new sidekick, Miguel, as well as a new enemy named Sgt. Gonzales. Zorro was, at one time, going to be voiced by Fernando Lamas, though the job went to Henry Darrow instead.

It was the first cartoon appearance for Zorro, but the cartoon kept the spirit of the legendary swordsman's screen adventures. And yes, the customary sword-carved "Z" was part of the proceedings.

The show was cancelled in 1982, but CBS showed reruns of the Tarzan segments for seven months in 1984.

All three of these heroes showed an admirable attitude towards fighting. They were all about self-defense, not agressive attack, and always had a reason for every fight they engaged in. As an added prosocial bonus, Zorro taught the kids a brief Spanish lesson at the end of his segments. No such luck getting elephant-speak out of Tarzan, who kept his secrets to himself.
