|Despite its short life, this hour-long cartoon helped launch the careers of future Saturday morning superstars Sabrina the Teenage With and the Groovie Goolies.
Sabrina, who had previously appeared on The Archie Show (and before that in Archie comics), was more concerned with her social life and ongoing growing pains than she was with her magical powers. Her apprentice witch skills did come in handy when the chores piled up, but Sabrina didn't much care for the witchy life of aunts Hilda and Zelda, warlock Uncle Ambrose, or headmistress Miss Delia. The girl found support in the furry paws of black cat Salem.
The Groovie Goolies was a musical family of monsters that lived together at Horrible Hall. Tom Drac, Hagatha, Frankie, Wolfie, Orville Mummy, and Ghouliehand spent their days in the freewheeling pursuit of a funky rock and roll sound. The gang was more silly than scary, limiting their spooks and frights to the occasional practical joke.
In the fall of 1971, after only one season together, Sabrina and the Goolies went their separate ways. Each ended up on their own series, Sabrina on Sabrina the Teenage Witch and the Goolies on The Groovie Goolies.
