Tobias - Paul Soles
The Reluctant Dragon and Mr. Toad was a half-hour animated series loosely based on Kenneth Grahame’s popular 1907 children’s book, The Wind In the Willows. The short-lived show was split into two segments, the first of which featured Tobias, the Reluctant Dragon. The second segment centered around Mr. Toad.

Tobias lived in Medieval times in Willowmarsh Village, a land ruled by King Herman, who sometimes hosted his own variety show. Tobias was a peaceful, kind-hearted dragon who was miserably allergic to daisies. Whenever his little friend brought him some of the aromatic flowers, Tobias’ eyes would start turning colors and he would break into a sneezing fit, inadvertently spraying fire everywhere and frightening the townspeople. His only other friend was the clumsy knight who protected him, Sir Malcolm Giles.

The second segment centered around J. Thaddeus Toad, who, as the theme song suggested, was a “happy, carefree, gadabout guy.” Mr. Toad was a member of the Landed Gentry, which was in direct opposition to his swinging lifestyle over at Toad Hall. Among his friends were the shy Mole, the outgoing Water Rat, and the intellectual Badger.

Unfortunately, the show never really caught on and was cancelled halfway through its first season. It returned for a season of reruns the following year.
