Huckleberry Hound was the show that put the now-legendary team of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera on the map. A blue dog with a Southern drawl, Huckleberry was marvelously deadpan as he wandered through his cartoon world making witty observations. Sharing screen time with the extroverted Yogi Bear, Huckleberry was more straight man than show stealer, but he has still managed to build up loyal fans throughout the decades.

After Yogi left for his own self-titled show, a new character named Hokey Wolf was added to the The Huckleberry Hound Show. Hokey's main joy in life was to coax free meals out of the clueless, which he seemed to do with ease.

A battle of wits was also the focus of another segment, Pixie and Dixie, which showcased the ongoing struggle of two mice trying to outmaneuver Mr. Jinks the cat, who, incidentally, hated “meeces to pieces.” Jinks, however, proved to be so loveable that he often won a few rounds against the mischievous "meeces."

In 1960, Huckleberry Hound became the first TV cartoon series to win an Emmy Award. New episodes were produced for only a few more seasons, but the popular pooch kept turning up on Hanna-Barbera's "team" cartoons for decades to come.
